Hummer is Cassielelolea’s first solo exhibition and the first time she is revealing a collection of nine oil painting of humming birds on used wooden palettes to the public. In this collection she explores the technique of impasto oil painting, using expressive colours and bold strokes she paints over the stained palettes. Each stroke creates thick and uneven texture that leaves traces of shadows on the surface, giving these used-palettes a new life. The works reflects Cassielelolea’s long term struggle in her artistic career, in between keeping a day job that offers her freedom to venture into the arts and at the same time, never stop listening to the humming in her heart in search for her true calling. In 2020, despite the global pandemic, she decides to become a full time visual artist.
